Travel Project: Hong Kong (Ngong Ping 360 & Tian Tan)

Okay, by many requests…continuing on our journey in Hong Kong…the 5 of us went to visit Ngong Ping 360 (an amazing/insane cable car ride) and Tian Tan Buddha. Back in 2003, my mom and I went to see the Buddha by way of a very long bus ride (around an hour). This time, with the Ngong Ping 360, the ride only took about 20 minutes.

When we were in Tobago for our honeymoon, Brian and I watched a documentary about the building of Ngong Ping and the engineer in him and the traveler in me definitely wanted to check it out this time around! As a side note, I have a bad fear of heights, but the last two weeks in Asia definitely helped me overcome this. The nausea still settles around the pit of my stomach though!

Okay, so on to our fun and funny videos. My mom is definitely a ham for any camera. šŸ™‚

At the Po Lin Monastary we ate a VEGAN lunch. I mentioned vegetarian in the video (but I correct myself later I believe). Brian was a good trooper. LOL. šŸ™‚

A few images. The most amazing thing about the incense was that these were HUGE! My mom told me it was for people who had BIG wishes/requests to Buddha and when it comes true they burn the incense and give lai-see (red envelopes) and other offerings:

And then we ate Douhua, a tofu pudding outside the monastery. It has the reputation of being the most famous, most delicious place to get it. I thought it was pretty good, but then again, I am not picky eater. šŸ™‚

Stay tuned! Next post will be about foods! šŸ™‚

La Sobrasita Grand Opening

While I am busy uploading and working on the next installment of our travel project, I thought I would share some photos from this weekend. Our really good friends (and our former bride and groom!) Jenny and Mario (along with their family) opened up a store in Midlothian.

La Sobrasita Bakery had their grand opening on Saturday. Brian and I along with some friends and family came to show them our support.
